Capoliveri

Although Caput Liberum, as it was called during the Roman Age, is not by the sea, it is still one of the most popular destinations. In fact, although the town is not right by any beaches, it is surrounded by delightful coves with crystal clear sea and lush greenery. Barabarca and Zuccale, with shingle, and Lido di Capoliveri with its fine sand are just some examples. And we must not forget Innamorata, probably the most appealing of all the island’s beaches due to both its characteristics and its story. However, the town is also the base of one of the two mining centres, with two mines, Ginevro and Calamita, which attract large numbers of visitors and provide reminders of a past time when many locals worked in the industry, a memory still vivid to many residents.

Beaches

The beaches in Capoliveri are among the most appreciated on Elba Island, thanks to the variety of the coastline and the quality of the sea. The south-eastern coast offers a mix of sandy beaches, mixed stretches and more natural coves, allowing visitors to choose a different setting each day according to their preferences.

Lido di Capoliveri and Naregno are the largest and most popular beaches, characterised by fine sand, gently sloping seabeds and a good range of services, making them particularly suitable for families and for those seeking comfort. Morcone Beach is also mainly sandy, with slightly coarser sand than Lido, a regular seabed and a well-sheltered bay, highly appreciated for the clarity of its water.

Beaches such as Barabarca, Zuccale and Straccoligno feature a mixed composition of sand and small pebbles, set within a more natural and scenic environment. The Monte Calamita area is home to coves with rocky and stony seabeds, ideal for those who enjoy snorkelling and exceptionally clear waters.

This variety makes Capoliveri a complete seaside destination, capable of meeting different types of beach holiday preferences.
