Costa del Sole

Cavoli, Seccheto and Fetovaia: just three of the beaches on Elba’s "Costa del Sole”. This is the section of coast between the towns of Marciana and Campo nell’Elba, in the south-west of the island. Cavoli, the annual meeting-place for people who love to celebrate the mid-August Feast of the Assumption on the beach, may be the most famous on this coast, but Seccheto, Fetovaia and Sant’Andrea are just as lovely and face into the sunset, with unforgettable views of Corsica.

Beaches

The beaches on the Costa del Sole and in Marciana Marina represent one of the most scenic stretches of Elba Island, thanks to the combination of clear waters, wild landscapes and seaside villages overlooking the coast. This western part of the island is particularly appreciated by those seeking a natural and less urbanised setting, with varied beaches and spectacular views, especially at sunset.

The Costa del Sole includes some of the most well-known beaches of western Elba, characterised by a mix of sand, gravel and rocky seabeds, ideal for those who love exceptionally transparent waters. Seccheto is one of the best-known locations: the beach is composed of sand mixed with small pebbles, with clear waters and a seabed that deepens quite quickly, particularly appreciated by swimmers and snorkelling enthusiasts. Its proximity to the village makes the beach convenient and easily accessible, while maintaining an authentic atmosphere.

Continuing along the coast, you reach Patresi, a quieter location characterised by a beach mainly composed of gravel and pebbles, set in a natural and less crowded environment. Here the sea is especially clear and deep, ideal for those seeking silence, relaxation and direct contact with nature. Patresi is often chosen by couples and regular visitors to Elba who prefer less frequented beaches.

Alongside Seccheto and Patresi, the Costa del Sole also includes other highly appreciated beaches such as Fetovaia, Cavoli and Pomonte. Fetovaia is known for its light, fine sand and well-sheltered bay, while Cavoli is popular especially with a younger crowd thanks to its transparent waters and sunny exposure. Pomonte, with its pebble beach, is also famous for snorkelling due to the interesting seabeds located just a few metres from the shore.

Further north, Marciana Marina offers a different yet complementary experience. Here the beaches are mostly composed of pebbles and gravel, with deep seabeds and very clean waters. The main beach of the village is easily accessible and located alongside the seafront promenade, making the destination particularly convenient for those wishing to combine time at the beach with village life, restaurants, evening walks and services within easy reach.

Overall, the Costa del Sole and Marciana Marina offer a more natural and scenic seaside experience compared to other areas of the island. The variety of beaches, ranging from sandy shores to pebble coves and rocky inlets, makes this area ideal for those who enjoy alternating relaxing days with coastal exploration, experiencing the sea of Elba in an authentic and evocative setting.
