Porto Azzurro
Porto Azzurro
The town, with the fourth largest population after Portoferraio, Campo nell'Elba and Capoliveri, took on a new lease of life with the refurbishment of the main square some years ago. Since then Portolongone, as the little seaside town used to be called in the past, has attracted more and more visitors, also thanks to very popular sandy beaches like Barbarossa and unusual sights like the pool formed by mining works at Terranera.

Beaches
The beaches of Porto Azzurro offer an interesting variety of settings, combining the convenience of beaches within the village with more natural coves nearby. Located on the eastern coast of Elba Island, Porto Azzurro is appreciated for its clear waters and the possibility of reaching several beaches on foot from the centre.
In the heart of the village are La Pianotta and La Rossa, two small and very convenient beaches. La Pianotta is characterised by pebbles and gravel, with rather deep seabeds and particularly transparent waters, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. La Rossa, recognisable by the dark colour of its pebbles due to the presence of iron minerals, offers an intimate and evocative setting, perfect for those who wish to enjoy the sea just a short walk from the centre and its services.
Just outside the village lies Barbarossa Beach, one of the best known in the area. The shoreline is composed of gravel and small pebbles, with clear waters and a natural setting that is highly appreciated. It is easy to reach and suitable for those seeking tranquillity without going too far from the village.
Continuing along the coast, you reach Zuccale, a wider and more panoramic bay characterised by sand mixed with pebbles and regular seabeds. Here the sea is generally calm and the atmosphere relaxed, making Zuccale suitable for both couples and families.
Overall, the beaches of Porto Azzurro allow visitors to alternate between convenience and nature, offering different options to enjoy the sea according to personal preferences, without the need for long journeys.
